40 Days to 40


Shhhh! I recently turned 40.

Actually, its not that big of a secret. I made it VERY publicly known on all our favourite social networking site. Yes, I knowingly and happily told everyone about my milestone.

Why you ask? Because I created a challenge for myself and wanted to achieve it. If I told everyone about it, not only did was I motivated by my friends comments and cheers, but I was held accountable to some degree to complete the challenge.

I challenged myself to exercise for at least 30 minutes per day for the 40 days leading up to my 40th birthday.

Amazingly it worked! Now I wasn’t perfect, I did miss one or two days, and I also cheated a bit using a 4 hour heart racing house cleaning session and a quick abs workout as a substitute. My brother-in-law also said that he had no desire to hear about my couple’s cardio session and said that it shouldn’t count (come on, it WAS a good one!).n

But knowing I had to report my daily activities to everyone, made me make the extra effort to get again done and quash the impending “I’ll start again Monday” demon.

I challenge you to do something similar, whether it be 40 days to 40, a 7 day sugar fast challenge, or remembering to moisturize every morning for 21 days (the amount of days “they” say it takes to create a habit). Let your friends be your cheerleaders and your figurative watchdogs.
