Mountain Biking Race Review Sports

That’s What She Said!

I attended the Fraser Valley Mountain Biking Association event “That’s What She Said!” this weekend. It was a day of fun in the sun and trees with about 80 other like-minded women.

Now, when I say fun in the sun I don’t mean sitting around with our shades, drinking our coolers and gabbing about the latest gossip. That IS fun, but this was very different. Our fun consisted of hopping on our bikes and climbing to the top of the trails near Old Mill Pond in Mission, BC.

And what a climb it was! I was one half of Team “Single Track Mind”. She and I joined 19 other teams in an ascent of several kilometers up the service road. Definitely a good workout in the heat. Then we hit the trails! They were cross-country (XC in mountain bike speak), with ups and downs throughout. The ladies spattered double-entendre challenges throughout the course – things like “I like it nice and hard” tire pumping challenge, and “Is there enough lube on there?” parts knowledge challenge – which kept us giggling like…well, like girls!

The other half of the ladies joined a beginner skills course, learning and honing the skills of this amazing sport.

The afternoon culminated with the volunteer men shuttling us back up the service road for another go at the trails without the killer climb.

Thanks again to the ladies of the Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association for putting on such a great event!
