Bali has become one of the top yoga destinations in the world and for good reason. It’s cheap, it’s beautiful, it’s for young and old and it has an aura that makes you want to stay. Yoga studios and retreats have been popping up all over Bali and now some of the best yoga teachers in the world come to Bali. This peaceful island has four main cities that are dedicated to everything yoga. We are going to explore these four hot spots in this article. So let’s asana straight into it!
Ubud is the capital of spirituality in Bali. It is a one hour drive inland from the airport to Ubud. The town is set in the lush hillside, between the rainforest and the rice paddy fields. The air out here is fresh and so is the food. The town offers a number of yoga studios or retreats for any budget. The most popular being Yoga Barn. Not only is this retreat a healing center but it also has a Vegan café onsite. Classes are held daily and in large groups so that you can meet and get to know a large number of people.
Uluwatu is a small town to the south of Kuta. It sits on top of cliff edges and is the home to surf lovers. People form around the world come to surf in Uluwatu as well as practice yoga. There are a number of yoga surf combo programs available in Uluwatu. The best being Bingin Beach Yoga, which is a donation based outdoor yoga class right on the beach. So you can easily enjoy some yoga and then a surf.
If you want to enjoy the relaxation of yoga and then enjoy the craziness of a party, then Kuta is the place for you. It is the main tourist town of Bali. So there are endless places to eat, shop and practice yoga. The most hip yoga studio in town is Istana Kuta Galeria, which also offers Bikram Yoga for the hard-core yogi. Kuta has everything you need to enjoy a great holiday for both your mind, body and pocket.
Canggu is famous for its black sand beaches and awesome surf. Only 30 minutes from Kuta, Canggu has one of the most beautiful sunsets and the best seafood. Also hidden away is the village style yoga resort of Desa Seni. This is a hotel, spa, yoga studio and holiday resorts all rolled into one. Multiple classes are offered daily and the beach is only a 5 minute walk down the road. What more could you ask for?
